I have this great idea. I want to buy a private island and setup a themed amusement park. It will feature extinct animals that have been cloned from DNA samples. I think i'll start with something a little more tame than dinosaurs; maybe a wooley mammoth.

Bored? Well of course you are. Why else would you be here reading my blog? Well, here's an interesting article I ran across today. It's by a guy named Cringley; and though I don't always agree with his views, he always has something interesting to say. This time it's about Big Brother. Take a look.

"The Rohan House"
Well, another day, another photo. This one is based on the Lord Of The Rings: The Two Towers movie. It is a typical Rohan house. I got the idea from a post in the Hirst Arts message boards that referenced a set of schematics on a games workshop website. I decided to try my hand at making it. This is my first building project that used something other than Hirst Arts bricks (although I did manage to use some bricks for the stairs. Click here for the Games Workshop page with the building instructions.

In the diorama below you'll notice a few miniature pieces. The bishop and the pillar are both part of a chess set that I'm painting for my father in law. Here's another piece that I just completed for his set. It's one of the knights.

"The Cathedral Diorama"
This was an experimental project in which I tested out several new things. But first things first; pictures:
In here I was experimenting with using stained glass windows and water effects (even though you can't see the water because of the angle). I used those little plastic beads that you have to melt. I don't like them. It hardens too fast, leaves little air-bubbles and dries a little yellowish. Oh well. The stained glass windows did turn out good though; i used a special hobby paint that allows you to paint on a glass-like surface and it dries just like stained glass.
Another first was my use of the 1.5" flagstone floor tiles. These are an integral part of the "big" project I plan to make (more on this later).
And the final first was my use of cardboard for a base. Don't do it. It warps... As you can probably tell from the picture; everything is crooked. :(
Oh wait - there was another first. This was a painting technique. Around the sconce, you'll notice that the light from the flame is reflecting on the wall; it looks better in person. I'm still working on this technique, but it shows great promise.

Scott wanted me to post something so I can feel the power of blogging, so here I go. Ummmmm . . . .
Well, we're still waiting for final approval on the loan for our new house. We should know by the end of the week, but our loan officer assures me that we will have no problem getting the house.
Okay, so now I've blogged. I feel so fullfilled.

Never ever play Yatzee (or is it Yahtzee?) with my wife! She almost always makes at least 300, and yesterday she broke 600!

"The Prison Tower"
Ok, silly me; i forgot that I have 100MB of storage from my ISP. Why not take advantage? :) So, let's test it out! I've uploaded an image of "The Prison Tower", which is a Hirst Arts project I did last year. The height of the tower is 7.5". Tell me what you think:

They want me to pay for storage space? You must be joking... Goodbye blogger. I'll find someone else.
But wait ... why not take advantage of the system? yahoo photo's allows 30MB of free storage for each free account you sign up for. What better place to store photo's? MUAHHAHAHAH! I shall post again shortly with an image.
Or not; wouldn't you know it? They won't let you get at the photo alone... I must consider another alternative.

Well, I suppose I should say something. Previously I had a blog site hosted at my work, but with a change of jobs, that is no longer available. ... Well, it is, sort of. It was run by a friend on the company network, and now that the company no longer exists, he runs it from his house (which means it's not as reliably available as previously). In any event, I thought i'd give blogger a try. I hear good things about it; plus i'm curious to see how the remote access via my phone will work.
Anyway, expect to see occasional posts about things such as what's going on in the our lives, projects I'm working on, pictures of my miniatures, stories about the fun times we're about to have in our new house, etc.. I'll even try to get my wife to post an entry from time to time. We'll see how that goes :)
